Key West - Saltwater Fishing Report

In the next month, we will start to find tarpon moving into the lay up basins on the warmer days.. Also rolling in the channels early morning... As spring progress more and more tarpon will migrate through the Lower Florida Keys.. April though June being prime time, with large schools of tarpon migrating though the lower Keys.

Lets not forget the other species.. Bonefish, permit, baby tarpon and barracudas are a lot of fun too! Always something fun to sight fish on the flats..
I know many of you are wondering how the Keys did in Hurricane Irma.. Sept. 10th Irma, A category 4 hurricane made landfall on the Florida Keys.. I was in Mt. at the time on vacation and watched the eye of the storm pass over my nieghborhood. Fortunately I have some great friends that secured my home, skiff and vehicles for the storm.. Lower Keys and the ocean side of Marathon were hit the hardest.. Some of the lodging options in Marathon and Lower Keys are rebuilding and will reopen later this year. Restaurants and bars in the Lower Keys reopened shortly after the storm... YAY! The Lower Keys are in the final stages of clean up. The county expects to be done in the next week or so... Key West for the most part was spared. Lots of fun places to stay, eat and drink.

The good news is the fishery is as good as ever! Lets Go Fishing!
