Marathon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Plenty of great fishing going on right now in the middle Keys! The Edge of the reef has been great lately with some nice Dolphin (Mahi-Mahi), Blackfin Tuna, King Mackerel, Sailfish and more. The deep wrecks have been hot for Amberjack and Mutton Snapper and some great Mangrove Snapper fishing has been enhancing the edge of the reef experience for the past couple weeks. Local Capts have been mixing it up by catching limits of snapper & kings in a couple hours on the reef, then moving just a short distance offshore to get in on the Sailfish & Blackfin action making for a great day! Blackfin tuna have also been hot out at the offshore humps especially the Marathon west hump. This should continue all winter so great action can be expected when weather permits the trek offshore. Lots of preditors have been showing as well at the hump at times so be ready for a shark attack as your bring some of the larger tuna to the boat.
Some great fishing has been going on inshore lately as well as the snapper bite at the famous 7 mile bridge has been insane with medium size fish. Some days this past week were one hour limits for local capts working the bridge....
Yellowtail Snapper continue to bite well on the reef edge from 30-60ft of water for the medium tails. The super large flags have been a bit slow as of late, but plenty of nice keepers there to round out a days catch.
The Florida bay snapper bite has been good lately as well with some nice gag grouper mixed in. Unfortunately we are in closed season mode for grouper, but plenty of snapper and mackerel in the bay to make an awesome day in calm waters.
