Marathon FL Keys Report

Capt. Bob Brown
September 13, 2012
Marathon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Mahi and Wahoo for the grill!

The offshore bite has been decent lately with some schools of Mahi showing up from 10-30 miles offshore with some fish up to 15lb. Some nice Wahoo have been around also with both species showing up around floating debris. Wahoo have mostly been school sized of 5-25lb and a couple large ones have been around also.

Swordfish have been on the bite also on the offshore scene with a few fish upwards of 300lb hitting the docks in the middle keys! The bite south of Marathon has been good along with offshore of the Marathon west hump. Plenty of good Swordfishing action has been reported up and down the entire Florida Keys island chain.

The reef fishing for Snapper and Grouper has been good lately with most boats getting out early and getting them before the heat of the day sets in. Some good Yellowtail fishing has also been going on throughout the reef.

Backcountry fishing has been good with the Snook and Redfish near Flamingo and plenty of small tarpon to jump while working around the inlets. Bayside wreck fishing has produced some huge goliath grouper lately with some 200+ lb fish being reported caught and released.

Good luck in all your fishing adventures!
