Marathon - Saltwater Fishing Report
Snapper Time
The Mangrove Snapper fishing on the reef has been excellent lately, mainly at night for a lot of local anglers. The Yellowtail Snapper action has been good as well with good catches coming in from the 60-100 ft depth along the reef edge. The evening to "just after dark" time of day has been the best with most fishermen beating the heat by fishing at dusk and after dark. Chumming and fishing with Shrimp, Silversides, large glass minnows, sardines, or cut Bonito have been the ticket for the Tails. Mangroves have been feasting on some of the many ballyhoo that are inhabiting the reef edge right now. Ballyhoo cut in half fished with a 20lb florocarbon leader has been the ticket in the daytime to hook the big Snaps. Night time you can heavy up the leader and use 30-40lb if necessary and still get plenty of bites. The reef action should continue to be good for the next few weeks.
Dolphin Still around
Lots of school sized Dolphin (Mahi-Mahi) still hanging around the middle keys waters and offshore anglers have been rewarded on a regular basis with a few Sailfish mixed in here and there. Good numbers of Dolphin have been found just off the reef edge in 200-300ft of water on out to 25 miles offshore. Look for the weedlines and debris.
