Marathon - Saltwater Fishing Report

Breezy Day? Fish the Bay!
The breezy conditions lately here in the Florida Keys have had captains heading out to fish some old stomping grounds in Florida Bay and finding it much to their liking. The water has been clean out there and some great catches have been coming in from the calm waters on the "gulf" side. Some nice Cobia have been hitting the docks including a 60lber that came into the 7 mile marina yesterday. The wrecks have been holding some Cobia along with the normal mix of Gag groupers, Jacks, Sharks, Mackerel, Snappers & Goliath Groupers. The action can be fast and furious especially in the mackerel grounds about 8-13 miles out as the annual run of spanish mackerel has taken hold out there. My neighbor yesterday came in with the box full to the top with Spanish and said the bite was non stop. The Goliath grouper population has been steadily on the increase out there allowing anglers to hook into a MONSTER before the day is over out in the bay. 100lb Goliaths are becoming more common and some much larger are out there. So when it looks like it is a bit windy out of the east/southeast and the Atlantic side looks to be a bit too rough for your taste, a trip to the bay side of the Keys can be a great way to enjoy an awesome Florida Keys fishing trip!
