Marco Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing this past week has been excellent. I consider this the "winter mode" still. Water temperatures have been hovering around the 70 degree mark give or take.
I have been starting my mornings deep dropping chunks of shrimp over hard bottm. We have been catching sheepshead, black drum, and a few redfish. Snapper have been taking the bait as well.
As the tide moved in, I have been going to the bushes and fishing points of interest with a popping cork and jig. Almost without fail, we have been catching numerous small redfish with a few hitting the slot. Larger trout have been hanging out just off of the bank in the slightly deeper part of the point. Jigs tipped with shrimp will do the trick as well. I have been catching trout in deeper water over the flats of Cape Romano under a cork with shrimp too.
This week we saw some sizable snook while fly fishing. My angler didn't connect. They were cruising so I know that they were active and probably would have struck a well placed fly. We did catch a couple of small redfish on the fly and the guy actually had a mullet chase down the fly and eat it!
If the weather continues to warm up, I would not be surprised to see a few tarpon start to move in. Spring is around the corner and it is time to start dusting off the big guns. I'll see you on the water.
Target Species:

snook, redfish, trout, and tarpon
