Redfish,Snook,Trout,Species Bonanza

Marco Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing has been fair to excellent these past few weeks. There are a variety of species to go after. Because the weather has been so pleasant, there has been live bait available along the beaches when the wind is right. I have also been using shrimp under a popping cork. Jigs, and flies have been effective as well.

Small to medium snook, redfish of all sizes, and trout have been the main objective. But bluefish, mackerel, and pompano are out there as an alternative as well. We had a couple of cold snaps so deep dropping for sheepshead and black drum have been a super fall back plan. That's what is so great about our area. There is always something to fish for.
Redfish and snook have been hanging out tight to the shorelines. A Well placed bait or jig will get the job done. You have to remain dedicated to score paydirt but there is enough of these fish to get the job done. I have spent a few days flyfishing too. Most of my outings have produced results with the redfish and smaller snook. Small shrimpy type flies in brown or darker colors have been my choice.

The trout have been on the flats and alonge deepr runs in the 10,000 Islands. Jigs of any sort have been working well. Actually, I have been using pink tube jigs on the outside points with hard bottom and have been catching trout, pompano, and mackerel. There are bluefish passing through mixed with small jacks to keep things interesting.

I had my friend and mechanic Mike on my boat the other day. He did work on our trucks so I took him fishing with his cousins. Mike was throwing tight to the bushes with a popping cork and shiner. He hung a root under water and tried to shake it out. Out of nowhere a bobcat cme down and attcked the cork. Mike continued to shake the cork while the cat continued to play with it. I have never seen anything like it in my 20 years of guiding. Here is a link on youtube if you would like to see it. The clip is grainy because I was on zoom with my phone camera. I was operating the trolling motor and power pole at the same time. http://youtu.be/NxkCJMU4kxw

Fishing has been fantastic. Give me a call.
