Marco Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

Just Right
It was another perfect week to spend the mornings on the water. Prevailing winds out of the east remained consistent. Winds have been light and the tides were favorable. This combination made for some good action this week.
Schools of bait at are everywhere. With all the bait around, it is hard not to load the livewells and go fishing with the real deal. Plugs, jigs, and flies are probably getting the job done. However, at every turn, I have been seeing anglers pitching live bait.
Snook of all sizes are providing plenty of action. We have been catching plenty of snook from south Marco to the Everglades Park border. They are favoring points with strong current. Downed bushes will give up snook, jacks, and snapper as well. Outside points on the higher phase of the tide have been producing also.
We have been catching redfish with more frequency too. Anglers are catching two to four redfish on a half-day this past week. Most of the fish are of legal size. My anglers are catching redfish where you might expect to catch snook. Points and large bushes in the water are almost a sure bet.
Large pods of mullet are being creamed by large jacks. I have seen larger tarpon blowing up on these schools too. As the water cools, we will start to see more tarpon. A patient angler would do well to take advantage of the situation. There are baby tarpon filling in the gaps with more frequency. These fish are in the ten to thirty pound class. We have been catching them in the earlier hours of the morning.
Jacks, trout and large ladyfish have been taking up the slack between snook and redfish bites. We are being ripped off by some large Spanish mackerel too.
It is not hard to go out and have a great day on the water. The morning temperatures are bearable and the traffic is down. Take advantage of the situation while it lasts. It won’t be long before the waterways start to swell again. I’ll see you on the water.
