Marco Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

Bring On The Heat
I know that it has been awhile since my last report. Life has been happening at a quick pace. The water temperatures have made a dramatic climb in the past few weeks. Rising temperatures are bringing the fish out of the woodwork. Redfish and snook have been spotty at times but persistence has been paying off. It won’t be long before all hell breaks loose.
The winter players are still here in strong numbers. We have had have no problem catching sheepshead, snapper, ladyfish, jacks and black drum with live shrimp in the deeper holes in the rivers and creeks. We have been picking up a few redfish and snook in the process. Trout, mackerel, and a few pompano have been hitting our jigs over the grass flats and hard bottom passes throughout the Ten Thousand Islands.
Jigs and live shrimp worked along the shorelines have been producing some good action as well. The larger snook have been trickling out of the backcountry. We have caught several snook in the thirty to forty inch range on soft plastics. I have been getting similar reports from a few of the other guides too. Most of the snook have been average for the most part.
The best news is that the tarpon are starting to make a show. I have been seeing free jumpers and have had a few opportunities to throw flies to a few laid up fish. Many of the other guides are coming in contact with large tarpon too. It won’t be long before we can make these fish our main focus.
If the weather remains stable, the next two weeks will take us over the top of that transitional period. Large snook and tarpon will chase away those winter blues. You should plan on being there when it happens. I’ll see you on the water.
