Marco Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Howling
It has been very windy with occasional rain throughout this past week. In spite of all that, fishing has been very good. Tides were low due to the full moon that we had, but I started and ended my trips accordingly.
I was able to fill the wells with bait this past week with no problem. I was kind of amazed about that due to the rain and heavy winds out of the northeast. Still bait held in some of my regular spots.
I think that the strong tides kept the water moving well and in turn made the fish bite so well. The trick was to stay in a lee that still had good moving water. Heavy wind always will dictate where you can go. It pays to keep accumulating as many spots during different wind directions as you can.
We caught snook, jacks, redfish, ladyfish and some trout in a variety of places. The fish are on the move but they still can be caught on the outside, middle, and back bays. Most of the snook that we caught were average size. We caught a few slot fish each day though.
The reds were mostly rat reds. They seemed to be schooling though. We would catch two to five fish when we found a spot that was holding. We did catch slot reds throughout the week as well. Trout, jacks, ladyfish, and snapper were a by catch if you will while we were trying for snook and redfish.
It is that time of year when we be getting the back to back cold fronts coming through. Keep a mental inventory of where you have been catching fish and the wind will be a non factor. I’ll see you on the water.
