Report for Naples, Marco Island and the Ten Thousand Islands

Capt. Matt Hoover
September 6, 2007
Marco Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

Early Bird

Baitfish are staring to school along the beaches with regularity. Schools of finger mullet are sitting in pockets along the shorelines as well. Morning activity with snook and redfish has been fair to excellent. There are still a few medium to large tarpon on the outside along the beaches.

Most of the action has been happening in the morning shift of the day. Moving water seems to be the key. I tried a little of everything this week using mostly live bait. We caught snook and redfish in the front, middle and the back bays of the Ten Thousand Islands. I think that the fish are starting to anticipate the approach of fall.

Anglers have been doing well with soft baits and jigs too. Some large snook have been released throughout the week.

I have been seeing and hooking a few tarpon from sixty to the one hundred and twenty pound range along the beaches of south Marco in the morning. Larger baits get the stroke.

Speaking of tarpon, I will be headed to Costa Rica for our annual trip with my family next week. I will give you all a line to tell you how we did. I’ll see you on the water.

More Fishing Reports:

Light Tackle Spinfishing, live bait, artificial and flyfishing. I do it all. Fish for snook, redfish, trout and tarpon in the Marco Island, ten thousand islands and Everglades.
