Marco Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

Spring Winter
Fishing was off the hook this past week. All methods of fishing worked well, but I was throwing live bait all week and doing very well on snook and redfish. That has been due to the unbelievably warm weather that we have been having. Water temperatures reached 78 degrees in some areas and maybe higher in others.
Live bait could be had near shore by watching for working birds and then marking it on your bottom machine. Snook and redfish didn’t seem to have any particular pattern as I was catching them from the front to the back bays. Double digit days were not out of the realm with snook of all sizes.
Saturday morning, a front was passing through and Kyle Rayburn and his party enjoyed a twenty snook half day with fish up to nine pounds. Through in a few reel smoking jacks and redfish to boot and it was a perfect morning. After the front moved through, high pressure brought in stiff winds and cold air. By Sunday morning, the jig was up. Heavy winds and cool air laid the snook bite to rest. We did catch a few but I bailed and went to deep drop tactics with shrimp for sheepshead and whatever else would bite.
Old man winter made his presence known. The weather should perk up again in the next week. In the meantime, we will get back to winter tactics. I’ll see you on the water.
