Snook,Redfish,Tarpon

Capt. Matt Hoover

Marco Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing has been excellent these past few weeks. Snook, redfish, and tarpon are on the prowl. I have been catching all three on live bait.
Tarpon have been coming into the Marco area and the Ten Thousand Islands. I have been catching them on live bait, cut bait, and flies.
Snook and redfish have been just about everywhere I go. I have been catching lots of jacks and keeper sized trout where you might to expect to catch snook.
Bait is pretty easy along the beaches and near shore wrecks.
The last few days have been very windy. The water temperature dipped a little as well. This is probably a temporary last minute grip of Old Man Winter. It has hampered tarpon fishing, but you can still hook one with some persistence. Spring is the best time of year to catch the big three. Most guides are getting all booked up by now, so if you are planning a trip, hurry up. I'll see you on the water.
