Tarpon and Permit action

Capt. Matt Hoover
May 12, 2010
Marco Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

The past few weeks have been touch and go. Snook are still spotty around the Ten Thousand Islands. I have been catching more snook around the rural areas of Marco Island. We have been catching jacks and a few redfish too. We have had a week of mild weather and the tarpon have been a main attraction.
I have been catching tarpon on live bait as well as cut bait around the Ten Thousand Islands and Marco area. The tarpon have been seventy to one hundred and eighty pounds. You just don't know who will make it to the bait first! if you get offshore, there have been permit and tripletail in the mix. Small to medium sharks will harass you as well.
If the weather remains calm, we will be concentrating on tarpon. They are scattered up the west coast now, so get your share of the action. I'll see you on the water.
