Tarpon,Snook,Redfish and Trout

Capt. Matt Hoover

Marco Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

This is the time of year when a guide puts his blinders on and doesn't come up for air for a few months. That's my story and I am stickin' to it. It is blowing with gusts to almost 40mph so I thought I could squeak in a fishing report.
Fishing has been fair to excellent this past month. All the major players have been biting pretty good. There has been live bait on the beaches so fill the live well with. I have been catching mostly small to medium snook on every outing. We have been catching snook to 31 inches as well. Redfish have been an excellent mainstay with almost all of them being in the slot. The trout bite has been fantastic and it is not uncommon to catch a few over twenty inches.
There have been plenty of large tarpon inshore as well as offshore and we have done very well with fish up to 160 lbs. We were fishing a point for snook two days ago when we darn near got spooled by a tarpon well over 100 lbs. He eventually wore through the leader or we might still be out there on puny snook gear.
It is nice to see a few good size jacks show up. They always add spice to a fishing trip. Throw in a few mangrove snappers and you have a well rounded trip. Fishing has been excellent and it is only going to get better. Give me a call. I'll see you on the water.
