Calling it a day

Matlacha - Saltwater Fishing Report

Friday April 8th, The tide was playing games with us. We had a decent bite the last half hour of outgoing and the incoming seemed to be running a little late. The guys were patient and caught trout here and there along with one cobia. Just a couple fish shy of thier limit we headed over to the east shore of Matlacha, as we approached the area I wanted to fish, boats popped out of no where. I headed south to the next spot and to my supprise there was'nt a boat to be seen. I threw out a handfull of shiners to see if anything was going to eat. The snook started popping all around us. We caught a few and then moved back a short distance where I was seeing some pretty good boils on bait. One of the guys hooked into a nice snook that broke him off in the trees. Shortly after that we boated a 28" snook. The bite slowed down and I told the guys to be patient that one of the big girls has to eat. After about a fifteen minute wait the famous "last cast" words came from my lips. The guys were getting ready to reel in when a 34 1/2 snook decided to postpone our return to the dock. It was a great way to call it a day with a fish like that.

Matlacha Fishing Forecast:

This time of year its good to have all the gear with you as possible. Tarpon are moving in along with sharks. It never fails, leave home without them and you'll wish you didn't. I cant tell you how many times i've gone out scouting around and wished I had brought along the propper gear. dont forget the sunscreen and some water. It's getting warm out there.
