28 Dec Reds, Trout and Snapper

Matlacha - Saltwater Fishing Report

Reds, Trout and Snapper
18-28 Dec 2014 during this time I have gone out on several charters and with some friends in Wounded Warrior Anglers. With the grass being gone in Matlacha pass the bite has slowed a little bit but fish are still biting. On my recent trips and not finding signs of life like I used to see, I started targeting the oyster beds with a moving current. By doing this we've been catching everything from mangrove snapper, Reds over slot and slot size, Trout and the real shrimp thief sheephead. With the snow birds and vacationers arriving daily and getting out on the water there is a lot of fish-finders going on. By this I mean anglers that don't know what they are doing and using binoculars to see who is catching fish around them, then encroaching on them. And they are getting increasingly bold and moving well within casting distance of another boat. This is poor fishing/boating etiquette and is quite frustrating to those of us who do this for a living. Please stay back a couple hundred yards from other people fishing and take a wide berth when going around them. There is also a lot of boaters fishing in the channels and I had one the other day basically daring me to stay in the channel. Well I stayed in the channel on plane and after dropping off my clients I went back to this angler and let him have it but another boat was already there yelling at him. Thanks and cudos to that Captain. Be safe and courteous out there.
Tight Lines
If you're ready to go fishing give me a call to plan your trip so we can try and catch the tides right. As I do cater to the Veteran community, if you're a Veteran with proof I have the best prices around and I guarantee it.
