Matlacha - Saltwater Fishing Report

1-15 Feb 2015
Fishing the first two weeks of February has been a little tougher for the Reds but were still on the Sheep heads, mangrove snapper, flounder, trout and short Snook. The sheep are plenty big and the snappers are a mixed bag of small and keepers. The tides so far this month make the fishing better in the afternoon with the incoming tide and if the sun is out warming up the water. All the windy and cold days has made some cancellations for me either due to windy weather or my clients didn't want to brave the cold.
As far as catching these fish use smaller bait and slow your presentation down as the larger fish are lethargic right now. Fish right before the fronts come in or you'll be fishing windy days right after the front pushes through and lately that hasn't been very productive due to the drop in water temp and a lot of NE wind. I've been doing best on hand pick shrimp not the huge ones but medium size, Gulp shrimp has been working well. I've been working the oyster bars with good success with a good tide. Early morning with cold water temps hasn't been conducive but the afternoon bite heats up as does the water.
Tight Lines
If you're ready to go fishing give me a call to plan your trip so we can try and catch the tides right. As I do cater to the Veteran community, if you're a Veteran with proof I have the best prices around and I guarantee it.
