Matlacha - Saltwater Fishing Report
27 Sep & 3 Oct
I haven't reported in a couple weeks but fishing has been great! Last week and the week before we fished pine island sound and Matlacha pass and had a blast. Finding bait is easy and everywhere. Once you have your live wells full don't move far from where the bait is. I've been hitting slot reds, slot trout and just under size snook staying around the bait schools. Make sure to hit the tides right on an incoming or outgoing with good current when fishing either mangroves or flats. But when the tide is flat the mangrove snappers are a welcome catch waiting for the tides to change. Just find a hole and sit in it.

Went fishing today with a fellow Wounded Warrior Angler in Matlacha pass and even on low tide with very little current we were able to get our slams on. After catching our bait and we were only able to fish in a time slot and not with a good tide. But we still managed to get fish on the flats and where we could find mangroves overhanging the water's edge. When fishing the flats with no current like we had today you must be on stealth mode and stalk your way up to where you see action in the water. The last three weeks Ladyfish, whitebait and live pinfish have been the preferred pick of the Reds and snook. I tried my favorite mullet a few times and it just made catfish-ville wherever it landed if the pinfish didn't get to it first.
Tight Lines
If you're ready to go fishing give me a call to plan your trip so we can try and catch the tides right.
