Matlacha - Saltwater Fishing Report

18 October 2019
October fishing is on Fire! And jerks are on the water.
This month has been fantastic for fishing. Red fish are on fire everywhere. Jacks are tearing up the flats and trout and ladyfish popping bait pods everywhere and sharks cleaning up the messes. Fishing methods for reds have been small white bait and small pin fish Live. Cut bait works but I haven't had to use it for the last week.

This happened to me yesterday while out getting bait. Myself and a fisherman I know who was 30 yards away from me were catching bait. Me on a time crunch to pick up my clients and was struggling trying to get bigger baits to come in and I almost had them baited in when…. Some Jack^%$ comes motoring in on a key west boat two guys with strong NJ accents. Cuts right in between me and my friend close enough if I were younger I could have hit him with my cast net. Then he circled my friend and left. My bait I was working was gone, I now have 15 minutes until I pick up my clients. I watched the Jack&^% go down to where other boats were catching bait. I shot down there and there too he went right in other peoples way of catching bait and didn't have a care in the world. I confronted him (out of character for me) after heated F bombs and threats I left. Later I find out another captain had the same issue same guy. The Jack&^% said I wanted to fish there??? What a stupid person. Yes I am still a little perturbed about it. Normally I shake my head and drive on. But he was doing it on purpose. DON'T BE THAT GUY. Most everyone respects each other's boundaries keep that respect my friends. Don't go fishing in a spot where guys are baiting up area to catch bait. And don't go catching bait if someone is already there fishing at least not close enough to impede each other.

I tried harbor fishing a couple times since my last report and nothing really to report on that. Schools of jacks and catfish. At least outside burnt store over to middle of harbor. Closer to Boca, there have been more action just haven't gotten that far yet.
