Report 5 thru 23 March 2015

Matlacha - Saltwater Fishing Report

5-23 March 2015

It's been awhile since my last report as I have been busy as heck. Since my last report fishing has been good and continually getting better with the warmer water and longer days. Snook have been on fire using white bait and green backs in the mangroves. I've also been on an abundance of Reds using the same bait but they have all been slot fish. I have been getting overslot reds using cut bait wither lady fish or mullet. The water has been crystal clear in Matlacha around the bridge and further North and that means using lighter leader material and I wouldn't use anything more than 20lb in clear water. You will have more break offs using 20lb leader but you will be getting the bites that 25 or 30lb leader misses due to the fish seeing it. I have been doing the best catching in searching for stained or cloudy water and lately have been having to travel up into the harbor or far south around st James. I have been on Reds on the flats in Pine Island sound North and South ends when the wind isn't blowing so hard to stop me from going around the island. It also still holds true that if you don't see bait fish such as pinfish or white bait MOVE! And don't waste your time in an area that the fish aren't. Don't have pictures on this report since my phone crashed on me and I lost a lot of data.
Tight Lines
If you're ready to go fishing give me a call to plan your trip so we can try and catch the tides right. As I do cater to the Veteran community, if you're a Veteran with proof I have the best prices around and I guarantee it.
