Matlacha - Saltwater Fishing Report

5 Sep 2019
Red fish are turned on!
Well my guiding season has ground to a dead slow pace but there is good news. The Red fish bite is great in Pine Island sound, Matlacha pass and all around Charlotte Harbor. I am back to using cut bait (mullet and pin fish) although other baits are working I am using mostly mullet since I don't have to waste time throwing a cast net and can get started at the crack of dawn before the water heats up. Hurricane Dorian has help keep the water cooler but its passing and the water is back to 90 by noon. I put out a video on you tube today about using cut bait its 24 minutes long and covers every little aspect of fishing with cut bait. If you have questions about it I guarantee it's answered in this video. I will be creating more videos as I get better at using my go pro as a Vlog. (I guess that's what the young people are calling it now a days). I was also looking back at previous years Aug and Sep fishing reports and it's definitely a ditto this year. Nothing has changed beside the water is a heck of a lot better than it was last year.
Trout are doing great over grassy areas using the smaller green backs and shrimp under a popping cork. Haven't really targeted them since my clients can't eat them.
Spanish macks and Tarpon are out in the Harbor in force when the wind is laid down. Look for the diving birds on the bait balls, Catch that bait which is threadfins. You will have to use a net that sinks fast to get them. But once you have them Find the bait balls again and cast into them. When you see the bait actually coming out of the water that's the bait that has the bigger fish hitting them from underneath. It is a hit and miss opportunity, meaning one day they are there for a couple days then they're gone for a couple days. Big darn sail cats are also schooling in there so have fun with that also. But at the same time have the right gear because the Tarpon are hitting it also. I have seen some cobia in the harbor but haven't caught any with clients.
I need some help from all of you that read my reports. Please like and follow me on Facebook and like, share or comment on the things I post. Send me a private message if you want to see me post something different. Same goes for Instagram. My You tube channel is what I am going to work on for tutorials and Blogging. Like share and comment and I will answer. This will only make me better and you get the answers you're looking for. This is the latest you tube video link on using cut bait for red fish Look up Jimbo's Charters and see the Videos I have posted
As always if you see me out there Say Hi and where you know me from. I am an extremely nice guy and a bit reserved and don't really talk unless spoken too.
