Cape Canaveral to Sebastian Inlet

Florida Surf Fishing Report for:

Cape Canaveral to Sebastian Inlet

It's March alright! Can you say blustery conditions? Well, you have to pick your days because right now it's a constant battle with the wind. Generally, surf conditions do not clear up until winds have subsided for at least three days, however, right now, we have to take what we can get. If you can find a patch of surf that isn't completely chocolate milk, try casting out some live sandfleas, fresh cut clam or shrimp for a chance at pompano. Most anglers right now are looking for pompano, however, whiting, sheepshead, black drum and black margates are also good possibilities.

Bluefish are also a good possibility, though they aren't quite as fat as they are in the fall. Blues aren't quite as thick this time of the year as they can be in the fall, so spoons and plugs may not be very effective. Fresh cut mullet or even a few small live mullet are excellent baits to use for these sporadic cruisers. Remember to use a heavier leader than your main line as blues have sharp teeth and put up a strong fight. I always find long shank #1/0 hooks to work especially well.
