Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

We fished a morning convention trip with visitors from Calif. The action was good with a husband and wife team catching matching mahi-mahi. These were the first fish they had ever captured! The other folks on the charter got into the blackfin and bonita action. All the bites were in 300' to 400' on a faint edge with trolling lures and baits. The pink and red skirted ballyhoo were the baits most attacked. The crew finished the trip with kite fishing with live baits but with no success. Looks like trolling was the right thing to do this day.

On another day, a family went out for some action fishing. This time the wind and current didn't really allow for the kites so the crew put the live baits in the outrigger pins and slow trolled. They were rewarded with two different barracuda catch and releases, and one pesky remora who just wouldn't leave the area. A few more bonita catch and releases and it was time to go in.

May fishing is just around the corner with an expected run of mahi-mahi and sailfish so get your dates lined-up.
