Biscayne Bay Inshore Fishing is on Fire!

Capt. Alan Sherman
September 17, 2008
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Light winds and schools of Finger Mullet have the bay fish feeding in a frenzy. Recently during the calmer days and in the mornings large fish can be seen from a distance crashing into baitfish schools. These are the days that make fishing here in South Florida a most memorable experience. Picture yourself standing in a Bay Boat early in the morning. Things are quiet, people are just starting their days and out of no where a frantic school of mullet are leaping over each other trying to escape the eager hungry mouth of a large jack crevalle, snook, tarpon, ladyfish, sea trout or barracuda. Large fish have pinned a frantic helpless mullet against a sea wall and are making loud popping sounds as they try and inhale the tired mullet. a quick cast of a mullet or a Skitter Walk plug in the direction of the last explosion and a huge opening opens up where your tasty offering landed. Your line comes tight the reels drag starts to scream and no you are not dreaming you really are hooked up to a good fish.
Thats what is happening right now in Biscayne Bay and you could be on the right side of the line if you get out on the water while the fish are here.
On Saturday after doing the Florida Sportsman Magazines Live radio Show on WMCU 1080/WKAT 1360 from 7 to 8 AM I headed for the Bay. We launched at 11 AM and in no time had a live well full of nice pilchards. We headed up into Dumbfoundling Bay and in no time had large jacks eating our baits. After the jacks we worked a residential canal and found more large jacks and a school of baby tarpon that we played with for over an hour. Then on Sunday in the same area a few hours earlier the fishing was dead. Maybe the tide but it was a full moon. Why not use it as an excuse. Today back in North Biscayne Bay it was jacks to 8 pounds, tarpon, snapper, ladyfish, bluerunners and barracudas. Thw two guys probably released over 30 fish in a short four hour charter.
Why wait get out now! Give me a call and lets see what kind of action we can get into. 786-436-2064

Sea trout, snappers and groupers that have been hiding in the bay grasses and under rocks will be tearing into the baitfish as well. This action will continue right through November and maybe longer but right now the fish are biting.
