Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report
Boy have I had a busy couple of weeks. The fishing is very good right now and headed into my favorite time of the year in South Florida. This is the time of year where I do most of my charters in the 12:00-9:00pm time frame. There are several reasons why I do this. One is that we have the ability to target blackfin tuna in the late afternoon low light conditions. Two we can also fish for tarpon on the beaches for a couple of hours in addition to the offshore fishing. Three you don't have to wake up early to get a full day of fishing. And lastly we can beat a good amount of heat by fishing in the late afternoon. So if these reasons sound appealing you may want to consider a late afternoon trip. Of course I will fish anytime of the day or night so don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions or special requests.
Now onto the fishing report. April as you know is the time for big dolphin on the edge. The mahi have definitely shown up wit this east wind we have had the past several days. Last week during a sailfish tournament I was hearing complaints from a couple of tournament boats that they couldn't get away from the mahi. That is how thick they have been.
We are catching some kingfish but not in any great number so we are waiting for them to turn back on. We have caught a couple of kings but they have been scattered and sprinkled in amongst other fish. The false albacore have picked up the slack for the kingfish and are showing up in good numbers. Their cousin the blackfin tuna is starting to show up slowly but surely. I have heard of some caught here and there but we have not caught any as of yet.
The sailfish bite has ranged from good to very good. Last week we had an excellent sailfish bite unfortunately my boat is currently having the bottom paint done and I was unable to join in on the fun. But not to fear the sails will be here for a couple of more months so we will be chasing them this weekend.
And lastly the tarpon bite has been very good. Out of the several trips I had we only had one day where we struggled but there was nothing that I could do to overcome 30 mph winds and driving rain. But again the tarpon bite has been very good. The fish are ranging in the 60-140 pound class. And I'm not even counting all the other multiple species such as mackerel, red groupers, and permit that we have caught in addition to the previously mentioned fish.
So that is it for right now. If you want to get in on the action give me a call.
Till next time
Best of Luck…
