Colder Temps Heats Up Fishing!

Capt. Gil Gutierrez
November 19, 2014
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

As I sit here and write this report I see a third of the country covered in snow and polar vortexes. Cooler weather for us means the fishing starts to heat up. One of the nice side effects of the cooler weather is the change in water temperature. Just a couple of degree change in the water temperature can have a tremendously beneficial effect on the fishing. With cold fronts pushing in from the north we are starting to see some sailfish moving south. The sailfish are not here in huge numbers but we are starting to catch them on a more consistent basis. The sailfish bite will only get better from here on in.
The one bite that has been outstanding for us is kingfish. We had several days of multiple fish and a couple of days of limiting out. The fish have come on the troll and drift. They are ranging from 10-20#s. We had one day where we had a limit of fish by early morning and from then on we just kept releasing fish.

Mutton snapper have also been biting well. In addition to the muttons amberjacks have also been gobbling up any bait we put down on the deeper wrecks. The mahi-mahi bite has moved a little closer to shore and we are catching some fish in as little as 70' of water. You are also going to run into some mahi-mahi on the edge while sail fishing in that 100-200' range. Well that is it for now until next time
Best of Luck…
