Dolphin Offshore and Kingfish on the Reef

Capt. Ralph Mayans
January 29, 2013
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

We had a great day today finding mahi-mahi under a pair of frigate birds in 800 ft. When we arrived where the birds were wheeling, it didn't take long for the dolphin to find our spread of plugs and feathers. After stopping and catching the first few, we began feeding them livies and also some cut bait. They were hungry today. We continued trolling the area and later found some floating debris where we picked-up a 20 lb. wahoo and a few more dolphin.

Kingfish are also making a good showing on the reef. The bite has been most consistent in 130 ft. We've been hooking most by simply trolling chrome drone spoons. But if we're catching them on spoons, you know they'll enthusiastically take any slow trolled live blue runner – deadly for the big ones.
