Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

South Florida continues to experience summer like weather conditions even though we are still in the month of March many weeks away from summer. Fishing has been pretty good for a number of bay and ocean species. Strong winds continue to keep me and many others from venturing out into the ocean where Spanish mackerel, kingfish, dolphins, blackfin tuna and a few sailfish have been biting. Inshore my anglers have had a wide variety of fish eating their baits and artificial lures. I have not been back to Flamingo since my last report due to the strong winds and dirty waters of Florida Bay. Freshwater largemouth bass fishing has been slow due to high waters that are slowly receding in the Everglades Conservation Areas.
RECENT CATCHES:
Today I have Mel and Mickey onboard in North Biscayne Bay. Catching baitfish was very easy and we soon had bluefish eating every bait that hit the water. Once we had enough of that action we went looking for snook and caught and released a small snook losing a few others. In the next spot we hooked two large jacks on live pilchards and lost both fish after having one line weakened by a pelican and the other severed by a piling. The next big jack weighed in at over 10 pounds and engulfed a Rapala Skitter Walk. We moved on looking for some more snook and a tarpon but only found some medium sized jacks, lots of small barracudas and a 14 pound barracuda.

Today I am at Outdoor World/Bass Pro Shops in Ft. Lauderdale representing Mustad Hooks. I met a lot of great people there and they all left with just the right Mustad Hook for what they were looking to catch.
Back on the water with longtime friend and customer Jerry in North Biscayne Bay. Bait was hard to catch today but we put what we had to good use catching and releasing snook, jacks, mangrove snappers and barracudas. This report really doesn't sum up the action that we had because we didn't land many of the good fish that we had hit our lines.

Back in Biscayne Bay with Gene, Frank and Bill in North Biscayne Bay. Bait again was tough to catch but my buddy Lester the Bait Man hooked us up with a scoop of bait that held us over through the trip. Once back at the dock the guys had released an 11 pound jack crevalle that ate a Rapala Skitter Walk, one snook, barracudas and a lot of sea trout to just over four pounds. All of the trout were caught with live baits fished under a Cajun Thunder float.

My last trip of the week in North Biscayne Bay was with John, Catherine and Gavin and was shortened by a bad rain storm. Before we called it a day we had released gag grouper, jack crevalles, a lizard fish and a few sea trout and missed quite a few other fish on live pilchards fished under a Cajun Thunder float.

Well that catches us up for now.
I still have scattered open dates so don't hesitate giving me a call so that you can take advantage of some of the exciting fishing that is going on right now.
