End of April Report

Capt. Gil Gutierrez
April 30, 2013
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Before I start up again I wanted to write a brief report to let you know what has been happening on the "Lucky Vee"

The offshore bite has continued to be steady. We are catching mixed bags of fish on every trip. I can only think of one trip where all we caught was one species and they were all sailfish. The sailfish bite continues to be very steady. We are catching multiple fish on almost every trip. This has been a welcomed change when just a couple of months ago I was lamenting the absence of a sailfish bite.

But that has all changed for the better. What has heated up has been the bottom bite. We are catching muttons and groupers in good numbers and as you may already know May 1 is grouper time. I have 2 days of strictly bottom fishing scheduled starting Friday so I should be posting some nice pictures of groupers in my next report.

The kingfish have also remained in the area and on several occasions have caught us by surprise skyrocketing on some of our baits. The fish have ranged from small snake size kings to large smoker size fish.

I did have one late afternoon trip on Saturday and I hoped that we would run into a blackfin tuna but that did not happen. I am pretty sure that it is just a matter of time before they arrive. But rest assured that when they do show up I will put up a report so if you would like to try your hand at one of these hard fighting and great tasting fish we can try to make it happen for you.

Tarpon fishing continues to be very steady. So far we continue to get 2-4 shots a night. I will also tell you that the fish have been on the large side. The tarpon should continue to chew for a while. Well that is all for now. I know that this is a short report but I will post again shortly. I have a several day stretch of fishing so stay tuned for updates. Till next time…

Best of Luck
