End Of June Fishing Report - Knot Nancy

Capt. Dave Kostyo
July 2, 2016
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's hard to believe, however, another month is in the books. Besides the fishing, Nancy and I took a week's driving vacation.

The month has included action for tarpon, mahi, tripletail, blackfin tuna, kingfish, barracuda, amberjack, sailfish, shark, and bonito. That's quite a mixed bag of fish species.

Heather and Trey found the tarpon action they were looking for at Government Cut. As soon as it got dark, 3 drifts produced 3 tarpon and all were landed and released.

Richard, Jim, and Ralph combined to catch mahi, tripletail, and 21.5 pound blackfin tuna, kingfish, and barracuda.

Markus and Jan had never caught a tarpon. As they put it, they wanted to give it a try. By the end of their trip, the try turned into catching and releasing. They started with a doubleheader tarpon, landing both. They finished with a single tarpon. Final tally 3 for 3.

Steve and Nick fished a 3/4 day trip. We started with an amberjack, moved on to a 19.5 pound kingfish. Then Nick caught and released his first sailfish. Along the way the bonito gave us steady action with a total of 8 caught and released. The bottom rod produced bonito and a very large shark.

My final trip in June to close out the month saw Ray and his girlfriend getting into some very good mahi action offshore. We found the first group of fish under two birds on a scattered weed line. The fish we mostly undersized except for 2. We released 12. Moving on, another single bird put us on a board. This time all the fish were nice size. We added 5 more to the fish box.
Final total - 19 mahi caught, 7 kept for dinner, and 12 released to grow up some more.
