Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

What a month!
Since last we reported we have had some epic catches.
On August 11th I joined R J Boyle, John Bassett and John Barfield in the Nickel Swordfish Tournament. We started fishing at 7 AM. We got a bite at 8. We boated a monster at 10 AM and then fished till 2:30 PM.
This was the only swordfish caught by 12 boats that day. It was a 558 pound beast and set a new record for the largest swordfish ever in a southeastern United States Swordfish Tournament.

A couple weeks later we enjoyed a great Cubera snapper run. We fished these lobster eating critters for 3 nights. We caught 3 one night, 10 one night and 8 the last night. Our biggest was an estimated 100 pounds.

We had some slow trips both along the edge and offshore during the end of August.
Lately we have had good action with snapper, mahi and some wahoo.

We had a super bay trip with some young kids and their dad. They caught 40 or more assorted snappers, 2 African pompano , 3 Big jacks and a huge barracuda.

Yesterday we tried for swordfish. We lost one 15 feet from the boat and caught one estimated at 90 pounds. This is prime swordfish season and we have some trips available.

We look forward to the fall migrations starting any day now. Mullet schools will fire up bluefish, snook, Tarpon, sharks and more.
Snappers will fire up along the reefs and swordfish and Small tunas will please offshore anglers along with mahi and wahoo.
