Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report
We got a call from Chris - he wanted to come to Miami for the weekend just to go deep sea fishing for the first time. We found out it was his birthday weekend, so we surprised him with a chocolate chip cookie cake!
The ocean was calm and no current. Capt. John started the day by stopping for bait at the stantion. The anglers captured some herring and pilchards for later use on the fishing kite.
Afterwards, Capt. John headed offshore and trolled the edge of the third reef. The anglers were quickly rewarded with some fast and furious action of over 20 common bonitas. In the midst of the bonita flurry, Chris landed a nice blackfin tuna. Then, one kingfish attacked the spoon on the planner and the fight was on. After the battle, the mate gaffed the fish to cheers from the anglers.
While the anglers' took a lunch break, the crew set up for kite fishing. The surface baits got nervous but, but no takers on the kite. Instead, the best bite came from a cobia on the bottom line. The group returned to the dock for pictures and tall stories. Chris is coming back with his family in June for the mahi-mahi bite.
