Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hi Gang, February started off with real good tarpon catches both day and evening and good catches of big mahi.
Then as the month progressed the tarpon slowed down, but we had some super catches of grouper to release. The Lapnow boys caught 15 gag grouper on fly and spin with a jig. They even caught a black grouper on fly, which is an uncommon event. They added 20 amberines on fly and spin, an amberjack, a yellow jack and a big mackerel on fly. Latter in the day they got two huge almaco jacks on vertical jigs and a nice mahi.
Sailfish action got better the end of the month with catches of 3 and 4 sailfish, good sized mahi and kingfish.
Some of those late February and early March sailfish were over 8 foot and a couple were 100 pound class sailfish. This is a very rare size for sailfish.
We sure have had plenty of wind so far in March. We lost several days to it. We have also had some good cobia action with 3 cobia in 4 days and having a school swim by out of range the day we did not catch any.
Our last day of fishing was with David from Toronto, fishing by himself. He caught 15 mahi to 15 pounds, a cobia, a kingfish, a cero mackerel and 3 bonito.
David also saw a lifetime of ocean events to add to the day. We had a 40 foot whale shark swim right up to the boat. That was where we caught the cobia and a couple mahi. Thirty minutes latter 2 huge bluefin tuna came to visit. These 600 pound fish swam within a few feet of our Evinrude engines as they cruised around us. Then just for torture on 2 occasions a sailfish would swim up and eat our live chum 20 or 30 feet from the boat, swim all around and refuse to eat a baited hook. It was some great day.
You should join our fun. We have several open dates in April and May. These are great fishing months with mahi, sailfish, permit, kings, tuna and tarpon waiting to make your day. Follow our daily fun on twitter or face book at Bouncer's Dusky 33.
