Hit the Right Day and South Florida Fishing Can Be Excellent!

Capt. Alan Sherman
July 15, 2010
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

The good news is that South Florida is oil free! The bad news is that some people that might be calling to go fish this time of the year that don't live here in South Florida and are not aware that the oil is not here are choosing to go fish or vacation elsewhere instead of coming to South Florida. Everyone in a business that has anything to do with the ocean or bays from Texas to north Florida is and has been feeling the effects of this oil spill. As I write my report I have heard that finally after almost 80 days the oil spill has been stopped but and yes there is a big but it may be temporary! We can only hope that it isn't temporary.

Fishing in North Biscayne Bay has produced nice catches of sea trout, small barracudas, jack crevalles, mangrove snappers, a few snook and tarpon as long as you fish early or late in the day. Catch an overcast day and the fishing can be downright excellent.

Offshore fishing has been producing a lot of bonitos, a few kingfish, an occasional sailfish but dolphins have been scarce and the few that have been available are small. Snapper fishing has been decent over the reefs.

South Biscayne Bay has had some very good action on bonefish and permit with some big sharks and barracudas around as well as an occasional tarpon. There have been a lot of snappers in the creeks and around the mangrove shorelines.
Flamingo in Everglades National Park has had redfish, a few snook, some tarpon, lots of sharks, sea trout, jacks, ladyfish, Spanish mackerel and a few cobias. Fishing in the Park has been good throughout the day and the snapper fishing has been very good in many of the channels and grass flats.

Don't let the oil stop you from fishing! Give me a call and let's see what we can hook up on!

YOUR UP NEXT! Just give me call and let's see what we can catch!

I have recently been wearing a lot of Columbia Sports Wear on my fishing charters and the new Blood & Guts shirts are amazing. I have had mackerel, cobia and snook just splatter me with blood and one good washing and the shirts are as good as new. Check out their web site at www.columbia.com

Miami Fishing Forecast:

I expect the fishing to only get better in the Flamingo area as more and more snook become available and the redfish and other species stay strong and in Biscayne Bay fish early nor late and thee is a great chance that you will have an interesting half day charter or if the weather allows and baitfish are available after the sun gets up a bit we can run offshore and fish for the kings, bonitos and dolphins.+

Target Species:

SNOOK, TARPON, REDFISH, SEA TROUT, DOLPHINS, SHARK, COBIA
