Hot fishing in South Florida is coming with the Spring Season!

Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Time for a Get Em Sportfishing South Florida Fishing Report!

Last time I sent out a report I was hoping that the recent cold weather would spark a late late fall migration. Instead the warm weather and then cold weather seems to have confused the fish even more. Despite of the weather changes it looks like the fish are getting ready for their Spring migration and our residential fish are preparing to spawn.

The fishing in North Biscayne Bay has been steady for sea trout that have weighed in at up to 4.75 pounds. Lots of bluefish in the one to four pound range, a few Spanish mackerel, no snook or tarpon for me in the Bay but that should change as the water starts to warm up again and we had five gag groupers to six pounds and lost another much much bigger with all except one of these fish being caught on ¼ ounce red Hookup lures tipped with a Gulp shrimp. All of this action came in less than six feet of water..

I fished South Biscayne Bay in the Finger Channels last week and was pleasantly surprised when my anglers caught and released two porgies, a two pound yellowtail snapper, a 15 inch mutton snapper, got cut off by a mackerel and had a few grunts as well. All of this action was cin less than two hours of fishing.

I have only been able to get offshore a few times recently mostly because of the wind. The last time I got offshore it was with my wife and we caught one nice golden tilefish in 650 feet of water and a small dolphin that came from under a floating stick. We had dozens of dolphins under the boat with some being close to 10 pounds but they were not interested in our live baits. The lone fish we caught ate a Rapala X Rap. Seems these fish were only interested in schools of small flying fish. There has been a large school of Spanish mackerel just off the beach and I hope to get into them on Monday.

I have had a number of Flamingo trips recently but only a couple when the wind was not blowing or when the temperatures were above 60 degrees. On some of these trips air temperatures dipped as low as 48 degrees. BRRRRR! We had mixed results during all of these trips but the best were when the temperatures were above 70 degrees. On these trips we had Spanish mackerel, black drum, redfish, sheepshead, snappers, jacks, ladyfish, snook and sea trout. With warmer conditions on the way the Flamingo fishing can only get better and more interesting. On one note we have seen a lot of American crocodiles. For anyone concerned about the vultures damaging their vehicles in the parking lot the birds have disappeared. When they do return the Park has a box filled with tarps that can be borrowed.
