Hot Summer Fishing

Capt. Orlando Muniz
August 15, 2020
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

We'll, it's been a crazy year and summer so far. Everything seems to be all over the place. The one thing that has been relatively consistent has been the fishing with the exception of mahi. Mahi normally play a big part in June and July. Unfortunately, catches ranged from pretty to good to not seeing a single fish. The good news is that it looks like a good concentration of fish is moving through right now and late August and September are looking up.

On days when we haven't been running offshore, we have been live bait fishing along the edge of the reef. Catches have varied from kingfish, bonito, and even a couple of sailfish to grouper, muttons, and various jacks on the deeper ledges and wrecks. Some of the Almacos have been in the XXL range.

We also made a couple of evening trips for snapper and yellowtail. Although conditions were less than favorable, good anglers hung in there and managed to put a decent catch together. Bottom fishing should remain strong for the next month or so.

The "Nomad" will be getting some maintenance and upgrades during the next week or so but we hope to get out later this month. I also got word today from Mercury Marine that my new set of engines will be shipped this week. The upcoming season is shaping up to be a great one.

Well, that is pretty much it for right now. I hope to have another report for you very soon. In the meantime, you can follow the action on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. During closing earlier this spring, I decided to work to improve my YouTub channel and I've been uploading new videos on a regular basis. Videos are a combination of instruction and actual footage from fishing trips. Please take a moment to visit the channel and SUBSCRIBE in order to receive notifications of future uploads.

Tight Lines,

Capt. Orlando Muniz
