January Fishing Report

Capt. Gil Gutierrez
January 25, 2010
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

I hope everyone's New Year is off to a great start. We had a great month of fishing on the Lucky Vee. I had a bunch of trips this month so let's get right to the fishing report.

The tarpon bite has been consistent this whole month. We caught tarpon on everyone single one of our trips. On our very last trip we ended the day 3/4 with our smallest fish in the 40 pound range and our biggest in the 90-100 pound range. These fish will be here for next 6-7 months. This is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening if you don't have a full day to dedicate to the offshore fishing.

The sailfish have not disappointed either. We have been getting them in good numbers this month. Most of our sails have come off the kite while fishing the edge. I have been getting several shots per trip at these fish. On several occasions we are getting multiple hook ups at once. The sailsfish action should remain strong for months to come.

Mixed in with the sailfish has also been mahi-mahi. These are a welcome by catch while we wait for the sails to show up. The kingfish have also taken up residence off Miami Beach. We had a 30-35 pound kingfish skyrocket our baits twice and steal my goggle eye all while missing my hook. Nobody said you were going to catch them all.

This month I had several half/half trips. This is a real popular trip because we can fish offshore for 4 hours and then go inshore and fish for tarpon on the beach. This gives you an all round taste and feel for offshore fishing. I have some customers that will only do this type of trip because of the variety of species that we can catch in day. We got several Gold Coast Slams (Mahi, Sailfish, and Tarpon) last year doing this trip

Well that is all for now. I'm sorry that the report is so short but I will be fishing a couple of more times this month and then I have a small break in my schedule before the Miami Boat Show starts hopefully I will be able to post a more detailed report during that break.
If you are coming down for the NFL Pro Bowl or the Super Bowl give me a call and let's set something up for those days in between games.

Till Next Time

Best of Luck…
