Late November and Early December Fishing Report

Capt. Gil Gutierrez
December 6, 2009
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

With the passing of the past couple of cold fronts the fishing has steadily improved. Let's get to some of the on the water action. I fished with the Mitchell's from Texas on Friday. The order of the day was bottom fishing. They told me they wanted eating fish and that was our goal. I was able to send the Mitchell's home with 10 mutton snapper up to 10 pounds. In addition to the bottom fish we were also able to catch and release a couple of sailfish. By the end of the day they were very tired but happy. The bottom bite has been very good we have caught bottom fish on all of our trips. In addition to the bottom fish we were also cut off by a couple of kingfish. The kingfish are also biting well although they somehow managed to cut us off. The kings should remain steady.

Sailfish are the talk of the town with our best day last month going 5/8. But this will only improve with time and subsequent cold fronts. We have been catching them on the edge while kite fishing. Our worst day of sail fishing we went 1/2 on a four hour charter. So if you can only spare a short amount of time don't despair we can usually get you hooked up with one of these beautiful fish. Some mahi have also been caught on the edge while flying the kites. They seem to come thru in waves and should remain in the Miami area for a while.

I have been told that some tarpon have been caught but I will be doing a couple of trips next week to find out for myself just what kind of numbers we are talking about. I'm sure it is just a matter of days until the silver kings show up at Haulover. Once I'm confident that they are in the area I will let you know so that you can come and try to subdue one of these truly great game fish.

Alright that is it for now I just wanted to let you know of the action we had the past couple of days so give me a call and let's go fishing. If you are coming for the Football Pro Bowl game consider going fishing one of those days. Why not the weather is great and the fish are here.

Till Next Time

Best of Luck
