Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

The summer fishing season is upon us here in South Florida and for me, my business Get Em Sportfishing Charters and for my working platform the "Get Em" my 22' Pathfinder Bay boat powered by my 250 hp SHO Yamaha four stroke outboard engine. I am really blessed to be sponsored by some of the top boating and fishing companies that a fishing guide has to choose from.
Just to name a few like Yamaha, Minn Kota, Humminbird, Talon, Key Largo Rods, Mustad Hooks, Daiwa Reels, Continental Trailers, Bob Hewes Boats, Hookup lures, Rapala, Pure Fishing, Cajun Thunder floats, StowMaster Nets and General Motors just to mention a few. These companies provide me and everyone else that boats and fishes with great products that make guiding, fishing, boating and trailering a boat a pleasure. Thanks to all!
With warmer and at times stormy conditions that we experience in South Florida during the summer it takes a good plan to make a great day happen on the waters of Biscayne Bay, offshore of Miami and in Flamingo in Everglades National Park. When you book a fishing charter with me I normally try to advise you to fish where the fishing will be best the day that we are going to fish. Unless you have restrictions as to where you can fish or an area that you only want to fish my policy is to wait until the day before our charter to pick the best location to fish allowing us the best shot at that special day on the water.
Fishing in North Biscayne Bay has been steady with the local fish like our sea trout, jack crevalles, ladyfish, bull sharks, tarpon, snook, snappers and a few bluefish and Spanish mackerel that forgot to head north for the summer still providing us with action throughout the day. Our best action has come early in the day with action from sea trout to just over five pounds weighed on an accurate Boga Grip scale. Normally these fish have spawned out by late April in Biscayne Bay but we continue to catch large sea trout on almost every charter. Yesterday my client asked for tarpon and I told him we had seen some small ones in the Bay but catching a fish over 20 pounds was going to be a challenge and if we targeted only the tarpon we might come up empty for the day. I advised him to fish for everything using lures and baits that work on most every species we catch in Biscayne Bay and on any cast that large tarpon might just eat his bait. Wouldn't you know it a fish that should be up in the Carolinas by now a Spanish mackerel ate his live bait and the next live bait was eaten by a 70 pound tarpon! He fought that fish for an hour and fifteen minutes on light tackle in deep water with tons of boats passing by us and almost cutting his line. At times the amount of pressure he put on that tarpon using a seven year old Key Largo 12 pound spinning rod had me expecting the rod to explode but it didn't. We had the fish just out of reach of the light 30 pound leader many times before the leader broke at the Mustad 1/0 long shank hook. A long distance release!

I have only been offshore a few times recently due to the strong winds and stormy conditions. Good quality baitfish has been very hard to come by but there has been some dolphins, bonito, blackfin tuna and a few kingfish when the weather gets nice.
Fishing in Flamingo has been the hot spot and will continued to produce great catches of snook, redfish, large sharks, sea trout, tripletail, cobia, jacks, ladyfish, snapper and permits. Yes it can take up to two hours to drive to the boat ramp in Flamingo but it is worth it. Not many places in the world can you see American crocodiles, alligators, eagles, white and brown pelicans, flamingoes, roseate spoonbills. Herons, egrets, sea turtles, bottlenose dolphins, manatees and have a great tine fishing in one day but it is possible in Flamingo.

This is what South Florida, Get Em Sportfishibng Charters and I have to offer you! All you have to do is call, text or e-mail me and it's done.
I have open dates in my calendar so if you're interested in getting in on some hot fishing action give me a call at 786-436-2064 or drop me an e-mail at [email protected]. Let's set it up today!
