Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

We love May fishing. Over the last several days we have caught 25 pound mahi, 30 pound kingfish, sailfish, 25 pound tuna, Big mutton snappers, Tarpon and permit.
We fished with some ultra-light tackle anglers for 3 days. We caught a Tarpon over 100 pounds on 8 pound line, a 25 pound mahi and a 25 pound tuna on 12 pound line, both while catching a sailfish on 8 pound line. We had a BIG problem when a 600-800 pound bluefin tuna ate our kite Bait fished on 12 pound line.

We had a good problem Sunday morning. We had two young boys and their fathers out for a half day. I thought that wreck Fishing would offer some good action with grouper. We fished several wrecks with live pilchards and pinfish. We didn't catch a single grouper, but we did catch 3 mutton snappers from 8 to 10 pounds, a smaller mutton, a big yellow jack, a Big amberjack and a barracuda.

We have searched far and wide for Tarpon the last couple of months. Last night my Charter said they had seen some big Fish off South Beach the last couple of days. We checked out these waters and found plenty of Tarpon. We finished the evening with 3 tarpon and a permit. That was good fun!

Big blackfin tuna should reward kite fisherman along with sailfish and kingfish. Late afternoon can be extra good. Dolphin fish or mahi have shown up this week and they should keep anglers happy for months to come. Look for good tarpon action for as least 3 more weeks.
