Miami Party Boat Fishing Report

Capt. Wayne Conn
April 8, 2013
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

As we move into spring, the weather patterns are finally getting in line. I'd like to predict that we will not be having any more cold fronts, but hesitate to do so. Look what we had in the last 2 weeks!

One of the benefits of late fronts is that they can move fish a long way, sometimes right to our front door. Last Saturday morning was a classic example. Captain Chris on the "Another Reward" put on the radio that he caught 3 bluefish while trolling on the way in, and big ones at that, 8 to 15 pounds. By 2 pm, there was a huge school of big blues cruising the surface in 20 to 30 feet of water, right in front of Government Cut. Captain Chris T on the Another Reward's afternoon trip with mates Alyssa, Jerry, Dan AND 47 anglers were up to the challenge, and stopped right in the middle of them! Needless to say, it was mayhem! Many crews would go around them, but not my guys. Needless to say, they had an amazing experience, catching loads of big blues, releasing most.

To round out the fishing, we've also caught lots of small dolphin when the schools show up, a big king, bonita, or sailfish as well now and then. The conditions are right for the dolphin and sails, north current, clean water in to the reef line. By this week's Miami Billfish Tournament it will be red hot!

You can definitely expect night fishing to fire up in a big way as the waters warm. Look for great yellowtail action in 35 to 90 feet of water off Miami Beach.

As we did last year, we are having "Super Grouper" trips on the Reward Won. May 1, (opening day), 3rd and 4th. 10 hours of vertical jigging on the most productive reefs and wrecks in our area. We limit the number of anglers to 15, so call the office at 305-372-9470 for reservations and details.

We recently have become involved in what used to be The Bob Lewis Billfish Challenge, now to be known as the Bob Lewis Kids Fishing Challenge scheduled for April 19, 20th at the Shake A Leg organization in Coconut Grove. Bring your kids out and enjoy the festivities and activities, as well as learn something from one of the many educational stations on site on Friday night's registration! There is a limit of youth anglers competing that should be filled quickly, so get there early! Details can be found on http://www.billfishchallenge.com/.

Look for the Reward Fleet to begin Family Fishing Fun trips this summer. These trips are geared to enlightening families to the joys of fishing together, with some education thrown in to boot! Sea Grant , "Kids, Let's Go Fishing!", the Fishing And Conservation Trust, IGFA, "Fish Florida!", as well as other organizations will partner with us to make it happen. Stay tuned!

The Reward Fishing Fleet has been providing visiting as well as local anglers with premier deep sea fishing experiences for over 50 years. All of our captains grew up fishing in Miami and have over 100 years of local knowledge. We pride ourselves in our ability to catch fish from a party boat that will keep all types of anglers happy. Our accomplishments speak for themselves. Small panfish for a fish fry, or big game fish that most sport fishing boats only dream about.
