Miami/Miami Beach Evening Tarpon Action

Capt. Dave Kostyo
March 16, 2014
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

So far on this full moon cycle, the tarpon fishing appears to have finally settled into a more consistent pattern. There has been a shrimp run and when that happens, the tarpon key in on it. The sight of tarpon blasting shrimp off the surface as they feed will definitely get your fishing blood boiling.

Last night Dave, John, and Anna were ready for some tarpon action. Our first tarpon hits came after it was completely dark in the form of a doubleheader. Dave's fish circled the boat and went to the bow. John's fish stayed at the stern. Then the real fun began when the fish started moving around. Dave's fish made a couple of circles of the boat and he and John were doing the over and under dance. After Dave's fish was released, John's fish decided to put on a show and made several long bursts. In the end John won and the fish was released.

Anna was up next. She warmed up with a ladyfish. Two drifts later, the rod doubled over with her first tarpon. This one screamed about 100 yards of line off the reel while making 2 jumps. After we caught up to the fish it made several moves under the boat along with a few more jumps. After the pictures were taken boat side, the fish was released.

We ended the evening going 3 for 3 on tarpon along with 2 ladyfish. Dave, John, and Anna all caught and released their first tarpon.

There is still plenty of time left to get in on the 2014 winter tarpon season. Call or email for details or to book a trip.
