Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

The heat of summer is upon us. This means it's time to start fishing deeper in the water column to get some action. The bottom rod and downrigger will get you that action. Fishing in depths from 130 feet out to 300 feet is the area you want to concentrate in.
On my most recent half day trip, we started off with catching plenty of live bait. On the way out we keep our eye on a typical for this time of year rain storm. The storm stayed well offshore of us and finally rained itself out.
We started the action off with amberjack fishing around several wrecks. The first one was a keeper and went into the fish box. Next, we drifted with flatlines, mid-depth and bottom rods. The mid-depth rod produced a kingfish that was added to the fish box. Then the bottom rod gave us another amberjack that we released. Back out to some deep wrecks and another amberjack that was released. The final fish of the trip was a kingfish on the mid-depth rod. The flatlines saw no action.
Final tally was 3 amberjacks and 2 kingfish.
