Mostly Tarpon And a Little Offshore

Capt. Dave Kostyo
February 19, 2015
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Since my last report I have been doing mostly evening tarpon fishing with a little offshore daytime fishing mixed in. The tarpon action has been consistent with 1 to 4 fish per trip. The tarpon are ranging in size from 50 - 120 pounds and are feeding on live shrimp.

Offshore, the most consistent action has been with kingfish. Catching a limit catch has been fairly easy. Throw in an amberjack, snapper, bonito, or sailfish to round out the day.

On a recent tarpon trip fishing in the Bay, we ended the evening going 3 for 4.

Our offshore trip produced 7 kingfish and plenty of fillets for dinner.

Back to tarpon fishing and we broke in a new rod and reel for Tina with a 50 pound tarpon in the Bay.

Out on the beach at Haulover on the first night we caught a 60 and 120 pound tarpon. The next night we went 1 for 2.

The third night at Haulover, we caught a 100 tarpon and accomplished my anglers goal of catching a large tarpon.

Steady action is the name of the game with tarpon thus far this season. Some of the normal usually productive areas have yet to light up. That could change any day and open up even more places to fish for the silver king.
