Although we never had a real Fall Migration this year we still have been able to put together interesting and at times very exciting fishing charters before the New Year ended and for the first few weeks of the New Year.
In recent weeks we have had some very windy and warm conditions. About every fifth or six day we get a break from the wind and enjoy a day of flat calm conditions. On the calm days we have been able to do more on a fishing charter than we can on the windy days but honestly even on the windy days we have been able to keep things interesting.
Fishing in North Biscayne Bay we have had steady catches of bluefish in the one to four pound range. These fish have been holding in a few areas and have kept my clients busy when they ate our Rapala X Raps or live baits fished under a Cajun Thunder float. Mixed in with the bluefish has been Spanish mackerel, small kingfish, plenty of jacks and when the fish are near the grass flats sea trout from small fish to fish over three pounds have attacked our baits. On a recent trip we had an eight year old hook a tarpon we estimated at 150 pounds. The fish ate a live pilchard fished under a Cajun thunder float and took the eight year old his nine year old buddy, both kid's parents and me an hour and forty five minutes to get the fish to boat side. It was incredible! Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the fish because I was helping all of them fight the fish. We have also had some smaller tarpon and a few nice snook. We have had a few groupers as well.

Offshore when I have been able to fish offshore we have had a few kingfish, dolphins, a day when we had two sailfish, some nice groupers, lots of lesser amberjacks, some nice golden tile fish and black belly rose fish that came out of 600 to 900 feet of water. On that trip we also lost an estimated 150 pound blue marlin.

I have only fished in South Bay a few times this year. With warm water conditions there hasn't been much to fish for in that area.
Fishing out of Flamingo in Florida Bay has been the area that has produced the most action and the best scenery. On every trip out of Flamingo we have seen more birds than I can describe. We even saw a pair of wild Flamingoes feeding on a shallow flat. The fishing has been very good for more fish species that I can describe. Catches have included large numbers of Spanish mackerel, bluefish, cobia, pompano, and lots of jacks, ladyfish to four pounds, bluerunners, and lots of tripletail to 16.75 pounds, snook, redfish, black drum, snappers and sharks.
