Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

When it comes to products available to outdoor consumer I always like to share with the public products that I have tried and truly believe in. Every sponsor in my sponsor list has products that I have tried during my fishing charters and I truly believe they are the best on the market. Now I have two more!
SoftScience Supreme Comfort Footwear! http://www.softscience.com/
Scott Seamans a founder and chief designer of Crocs, and John Duerden former President and Chief Operating Officer of Reebok, and a former CEO at Crocs, have teamed up and created what I believe is the most comfortable boating and water shoe that I have ever had on my feet. Weighing in at between 8.4 and 9.8 ounces you hardly know that they are on your feet. With a soft insole that cushions your feet from any kind of shock your feet might absorb during the day. These shoes have a non-marking outsole and a slip resistant outsole. The shoes are stylish and very durable. I have two pairs of SoftScience shoes. The first is the Fin that I wear on my charters. This shoe allows any water that gets into the shoe to quickly drain out. The shoe grips the deck and I also use this shoe when I am at the beach or wading in the water. They don't smell and they dry overnight. Best of all is that my feet feel great after 8 hours on the water. The second pair is the Cruise. This is a true boat shoe and a bit more stylish. Check out their web site at www.softscience.com/.

The second product is made by BUFF! http://www.buffusa.com/sports/
Being in the sun almost every day it is important for me to stay protected from the sun's harmful rays. Using sunscreen is great but for me it requires reapplying many times each day. Something that I at times forget to do! I have used sun masks and sun gloves from many manufactures but none of them have held up for long. Most of the masks make my sunglasses fog and the gloves seem to tear quickly. But now I have found Buff and Buff makes a sun glove that is truly functional. Extremely durable and light enough for me to wear all day long during my charters! Add to that they also have many sun masks for you to choose from. I prefer the UVX Mask that has small laser cut mouth holes for you to breathe through. The small holes let your warm breath flow out so your sun glasses don't fog. This mask has a long bottom that easily fits under the neck of your shirt protecting you from head to shoulder. I have a second type called the UVX Balaclava that covers your entire head and protects from not just the sun but pesky insects like no-see-ums, mosquitos and horse flies. It also has the laser holes. And the gloves I am wearing the Pro Angler Series 2 Gloves and love them. Check out their website at http://www.buffusa.com/sports/.

Now to the fishing!
North Bay has been temperamental. Baitfish schools have been around one day and gone the next. When I can get the bait there are daytime snook, tarpon, bull sharks, sea trout and snappers to catch especially early in the day.
Offshore fishing for dolphins has been great. The weather has been good during most trips offshore and the fish have been eager to bite. We are catching them on Hookup lures tipped with a Gulp soft plastic bait and on live baits attached to a Mustad Ultra Point 2/0 short shank hook and on Rapala Skitter Walks. For me and my charters it all comes down to the wind on whether I can fish offshore or not.

Flamingo is always my favorite place to be almost year round and the summer is no exceptions. If you're looking to catch snook and redfish then now is the time.
Freshwater fishing continues to be excellent. Despite recent rains catches of 100 fish continue to happen. Fishing with Rapala floating minnows and soft plastics has kept the rods bending from largemouth bass to four pounds, pickerel, Oscars, cichlids, blue gills, stump knockers, mudfish and gars.

So what are you waiting for? Lets go catch some fish!

Miami Fishing Forecast:
Spring is here and the fishing in South Florida is about to explode. With water temperatures rising sea trout and snook will start their spawning seasons. Bigger fish and bigger numbers of fish! Spanish mackerel, bluefish and kingfish are heading north for the summer. As they pass the Miami area they always provide a months' worth of action. Big jack crevalles will be chasing baitfish schools in North Bay and big tarpon will be stealing baits intended for other fish. Offshore we will see kingfish and Spanish mackerel, bonitos, sailfish, dolphins and blackfin tuna feeding right alongside each other. In Flamingo in Everglades National Park we will see the return of all of the migratory birds as they fill the park and make unbelievable sunrise pictures. Fishing for snook, redfish, sheepshead, blackdrum, snapper, sea trout, jacks ladyfish, sharks, tripletail, cobia and more will be as e exciting light tackle fishing as one could wish for. When the freshwater levels drop in the Everglades Conservation areas the largemouth bass stack up in the canal systems providing 100 fish days.
