Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Sorry for the delayed report but I have been non stop since my
last one. I just recently got back from the great state of Alaska with my family and it was a trip to remember. In addition to that I fished a couple of days before I left and the fishing did not disappoint.
Let's start with those species that have slowed down and the most dramatic have been the sailfish. I have not caught any in the last couple of trips and again that is common this type of year due to migration patterns and water temperatures.
What has been here in abundance have been the false albacore or bonitos as they are also known. Although not great table fare they are an excellent opponent on light tackle and keep people entertained in between other bites. Those "other" bites have been muttons, amberjacks, sharks, barracuda, and kingfish.
Let's talk about the bottom bite. Those of you that have fished with me before know I love to bottom fish and this is a great time of year to do that. With higher water temperatures in the upper water column, the lower water column is still cool in temperature. All you have to do is find some north current and we are in business. The mutton snapper have been biting real well especially on the full moons. We have caught a couple on almost all of our trips ranging anywhere from 6-10 pounds. Add in large size amberjack and the bite can be quite good.
The kingfish have also been cooperative mood. Our largest was close to 30 pounds. That kings have ranged mostly in the teens with some larger ones mixed in. The mahi have been offshore but some of the fish I have seen have been on the small size. I had another captain I know catch over 80 fish by his count and not have one keeper.
Keep in mind that if you don't see my report for a little bit I'm in the process of building
a new boat so my days on the water may be limited but as soon as we are done Building the new boat I will post some pictures. I will definitely be up and running by the November/October time frame so stay tuned.
Till next tide.
Best of Luck
