Miami, Florida - Offshore

Capt. Mark Houghtaling
September 26, 2000
Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

Anglers are still finding Dolphin offshore, however, recently they have

moved in a little closer to the reef. Fisherman trolling in 200 to 300 feet of

water are catching the Dolphin on lures and rigged Ballyho. Mixed in with

the Dolphin have been a few Wahoo, however most of them have been small.

I would look for the dolphin action to continue and to be increasingly good

along the edge of the stream. Look for any rip from 120 out to 400 feet of

water to find Dolphin. If you happen to locate a board, a deepline trolled fast

around the board has a good chance of hooking a Wahoo. This time of year

Wahoo become more prevalent. Sailfish are starting to make a showing along

the reef also. It’s not red hot by any means, but they are slowly filtering into

the area. We could use a strong northerly breeze to get the action moving our

way. Pilchards are all over South Biscayne Bay and a few Cigars are showing

up at Bug Light.
