Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report

A nice bottom bite has been happening off Miami and south. Anglers have been having nice catches of Mutton snapper , Black groupe,r and African Pompano. Probably most of the action has been because of the full moon this week. We had a nice catch last Sunday when we caught two Black grouper 15 and 25 lbs., three Muttons, an African Pompano, kingfish, Almaco jacks and dolphin. Yesterday we caught three African Pompano and a mutton snapper, and lost numerous other fish. We watched one boat catch over 30 Mutton Snapper last week!
Sailfishing has been fair. While fishing off south Miami yesterday, I could here the boats off Islamorada calling in catches during a tournament and it sounded like they were having a good bite down there. Those fish should be moving their way into our waters very soon. I am still getting reports that there are plenty of fish to our north. We’re sitting here in Miami like a sandwich. Typically, February, March, and April will be our best months for sailfish.
Look for sporadic catches of dolphin, especially when the winds are out of the southeast. Kingfishing will be on and off it depends on where the fish are schooling. Sailfishing will be on the rise and the ever pesty bonito will arrive. Baitfishing has been good. I have been seeing large schools of Spanish Sardines along the offshore reefs.
